At the age of sixteen, IKD's principal founder, Ian Dennis, enrolled in a four-year professional carpentry and joinery apprenticeship with Thames Television, Middlesex. This thorough apprenticeship required Ian to complete some of his training within a building maintenance and construction site environment. Primarily however, Ian was involved in the creation of sets and scenery for television programmes and films, and was duly awarded the City & Guilds Advanced and the ITV Association/Beta Apprenticeship Scheme qualifications, with distinction. Ian continued to work for Thames Television until they lost the ITV franchise in the early 1990's, whereby he relocated to Kettering.

In August 1992 Ian founded IKD and initially worked as a jobbing carpenter joiner hanging doors and refurbishing staircases etc. On several occasions however, Ian was asked to install several flat pack kitchens, which quickly developed into him being asked to design, supply and install his own kitchens, as his list of suppliers continued to grow with every trade exhibition he attended, every sales representative he met, and with every working relationship he cultivated.

Now, 17 years on, and following the twin philosophies of constant reinvestment and continuous improvement, IKD specialise in the 3D CAD design of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, but can also redesign and reinvigorate your en suite, cloakroom, home office or study. On numerous occasions we have even built en suites and studies etc, where none had existed previously; it's always an option should you wish to optimise the space you have.
